Another skin?
Yes, well ... err ... I couldn't resist. The other one took too long to load and wasn't very stylishly done, to my thinking. Anyway, as you can see, I've made some visual changes to my little unknown corner of deviantART. I'm rather proud of this skin. It's much less image-dependent (no more huge Odin banner to load - even though I love that old painting), and it sports a much more clean overall look, I think; I did, however, keep a bit of the Viking theme where I could (i.e. the Futhark A-rune above). The basic coding for this journal is from the wonderful
Simple & Clean NG theme by `
ClaireJones. I took the liberty of altering and customizing a few things from it, changing up the colors and adding headers, obviously, but also altering some little things here and there. The icons featured here are from
IconJoy, and suit the design well, methinks.
I haven't posted any writing in a couple days (a shock - no poems from me in your devwatch, a significant departure from my recent tidal wave of stuff), but that's mainly because I've been trying to work on this journal design when I've had spare time (which isn't always a common thing out here). I do, however, think that I've started to get over a bit of writers' block which had forced itself upon me and caused a few pieces of shit disguised as poetry to crop up here. If my recent
Docile Beast is any indication, then I should be able to crank out some decent stuff for the time being. I really like that one, actually; I think it turned out pretty well.
There is not an inordinate amount of folk here on dA who watch me and/or keep up with me regularly, but such of you as there are, I want to let you know that I may be out of pocket for a bit during the latter half of this month beginning on a time and date which I cannot discuss over unsecure channels; I will be unable to log into dA for a while. I've always written my best stuff when using pen and paper, however, so I will continue to write while I'm out there, and shall therefore probably swamp this place with stuff when I get back. Assuming, of course, that I don't die (don't worry - I won't).
Just as an additional note, it's always interesting to see how people's true colors come into view when you're not around. I've learned that my girlfriend back home is having to deal with a huge amount of absolutely needless and unfounded drama regarding me, her, and just stuff in general in San Antonio, and it's very disappointing to hear. I suppose I shouldn't really be all that surprised - in my experience I've had perhaps one or two friends that have actually been
friends and not just people with whom I was acquainted posing as friends for whatever reasons. It's all right, though - this just reinforces my opinion that in general (with some exceptions) humans are untrustworthy, self-centered, jealous, opportunistic beings and not worthy of close association. (I shouldn't have expected much else - goth joints aren't exactly the place to meet stable, problem-free people.) It's also interesting to observe that every single friend I've made online (also with exceptions, but fewer in this case) has been more real, more truthful, more honest, and more of a true
friend than the vast majority of people I know in person.
Anyway, I wish to all of you, my readers, a good day and a good remainder of the week. Texas and OU play this Saturday. This is the game of the year for me and much of the Big 12. I will be parked in front of the TV, dressed in orange and filled with Red Bull and coffee, ready to scream at the slightest provocation. It shall be glorious.

I'd like to take just a minute to mention a deviant whose work I've recently come across, who goes by the name of ~
phoenixmemory. Her use of highly interesting word-images (some sort of all-encompassing phrase I use to describe either the ability to easily draw pictures in the reader's mind with words, or to also mean the juxtaposition of words with topics or subjects not commonly associated - both are applicable here) is excellent, and her line breaks in free verse both flow well and chop up thoughts efficiently. Additionally, she writes some of her strongest pieces in short, powerful lines, which serves to really ratchet up the strength behind her points. And, for me personally: as an unwilling servicemember overseas, I empathize to an intense degree with her thoughts on the current conflict out here. Give her stuff a read!

And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.
